World’s shortest man: Junrey Balawing is new record-holder – it’s official!

Guinness World Records™ can officially confirm that Junrey Balawing from the Philippines has been certified as the world’s shortest man.
Junrey was today verified as measuring 23.6 inches (59.93cm), making him almost three inches smaller than the former holder of the title, Nepal’s Khagendra Thapa Magar.

However, he just misses out on beating the record for the shortest living man in history - a record that was set by Gul Mohammed (India, 1957–97), who was found to be 22.5 inches tall.
Junrey, who weighs only 5kg, became eligible for the record today as he celebrated his 18th birthday.

Today’s confirmation follows a series of measurements made over the course of 24 hours at Sindangan Health Centre, overseen by Guinness World Records adjudicator and Editor-In-Chief, Craig Glenday.

According to his parents, Junrey has not grown since his first birthday.
He lives with his parents and three younger siblings in in Sindangan, a coastal village in the southern Philippines.

Junrey has to stay at home with his mum, Concepcion, while his sisters Jaycel, 13, and Jeanritch, six, and 11-year-old brother Jay-art go to school.

Concepcion, 35, says: "He needs my care every minute of every day. Junrey can only walk with some help and he can't stand for too long because he's in too much pain."
Blacksmith dad Reynaldo, 37, works away for most of the week but when he is home Junrey enjoys sitting on his shoulders and going for a wander in the village.

According to his parents, before Junrey was born, his family were poor and down on their luck. However, after his birth, they saw a reversal of fortune, with Junrey’s father Reynaldo, 37, getting a job that enabled him to look after his family.

"Junrey is our lucky charm," Reynaldo says.

His birthday coincides with Philippines Independence Day, meaning a double celebration in his village today.

The vice-mayor of Sindangan, Bess Jagonio said: "We are very proud because our town will be known throughout the whole world now that we have a person who has become a Guinness World Records title holder.

Oldest Person in the World

Guinness World Records can officially announce that Eugenie Blanchard has inherited the title of the oldest person in the world. Eugenie was born in St. Barts, France, on the 16th February 1896.
Eugenie, one of the few people now alive to have been born in the 19th century, spent most of life working as a nun.

She took the title from Kama Chinen who unfortunately passed away on the 2nd May 2010.

Cobourg man, son set Guinness World Record after pulling 72-tonne trucks

A Cobourg, Ont., strongman has pulled off another world record, but this time he had a little help from his son.
Reverend Kevin Fast and his 18-year-old son Jacob set the Guinness World Record for heaviest vehicle pulled by two people Saturday.They pulled two fire trucks 30 metres down Queen Street in Cobourg in 38 seconds as hundreds of people cheered them on.

There are two holders for this record:
Pranamya Menaria (India; born August 10, 2005) has 25 in total (12 fingers and 13 toes). This is as a result of the condition Polydactyly and Syndactyly.

Stephen Taylor (UK) has a tongue that measures 9.5 cm (3.74 in) from the tip to the centre of his closed top lip. It was measured on the set of 'Lo Show dei Record' in Milan, Italy on January 5, 2006.

The world's longest documented hair belongs to Xie Qiuping (China) at 5.627 m (18 ft 5.54 in) when measured on May 8, 2004. She has been growing her hair since 1973 from the age of 13.

The tallest man in history

The tallest man in medical history for whom there is irrefutable evidence is Robert Pershing Wadlow. He was born at Alton, Illinois, USA, on February 22, 1918, and when he was last measured on June 27, 1940, was found to be 2.72 m (8 ft 11.1 in) tall. Wadlow died at 1:30 a.m. on July 15, 1940, in a hotel in Manistee, Michigan, as a result of a septic blister on his right ankle caused by a brace, which had been poorly fitted only a week earlier. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Alton, in a coffin measuring 3.28 m (10 ft 9 in) long, 81 cm (32 in) wide and 76 cm (30 in) deep.
